The Giant Race – August 27, 2011 – ALMOST Sold Out!

Posted on: May 9, 2011

The race that prompted me to start this blog (in order to encourage others to join me in training for it) is The Giant Race on August 27, 2011.  Benefiting Project Open Hand, this race begins at the parking lot next to AT&T Park and ends at home plate.  The 10K is currently sold out.  The 5K (3.2 miles) is a good race for more novice runners or those who don’t think they have the time or energy needed for Half Marathon (13.2 miles) training.  Both the 5K and Half Marathon are almost sold out, so be sure and sign up today if you want to run either.

Date: Saturday, August 27, 2011

Start time: 8am for the Half; 9am for the 5K

Course Time Limits: Any road closures will end at 11am and therefore runners who have not completed any of the different race courses by this time will have to run along sidewalks adjacent to the course.  This doesn’t mean, of course, that you can’t half-walk-half run the half marathon if you want.  If you do want to stick to the course, a 3 hour course limit comes out to about 13.6 minutes per mile.  If you want to see how fast this is, hop on the treadmill and set the pace to 4.4 miles per hour.

Cost:  5K is $30; Half Marathon is $80

Race Information:

Prizes for All: Other than the satisfaction of finishing the race, all participants will receive a t-shirt and a Tim Lincecum bobblehead.
