San Francisco Running Clubs!

Posted on: July 6, 2011

Year after year San Francisco ranks among the fittest and healthiest cities in America.  The abundance of Farmer’s Markets, outdoor space, gyms, and running trails bodes well for anyone desiring to achieve higher fitness goals.  San Francisco is also a very social city – and what better way to combine meeting new people with going for a run!

Several running clubs and sponsored running nights exist throughout the city’s limits.  Some of these organizations charge a membership fee while others are led by a local fitness retailer.  I have never joined a running club (I can’t lie – I don’t do early morning runs) but have heard great things about some of these organizations.  If you’ve just moved to the City or are looking to meet some new people, these clubs can be a great opportunity to network.  I know of people who have formed lifelong friendships through these running clubs.  These clubs are also a great way to learn about the City and discover new neighborhoods.

Below is a list of both sponsored runs and running clubs.  Check one out today!  I apologize if any of the information below is slightly incorrect.

Runs Sponsored by Local Retailers:

  • Niketown (278 Post St. @ Stockton; (415)392-6453):  Run Clubs meet Wednesdays at 6pm (2-4-6 miles) and Saturdays at 8:30am (6-8-10 miles).  No fee.
  • Lululemon Athletica Union Street (1981 Union St.; (415) 776-lulu): Run Club meets every Saturday at 9am for a 4-6 mile run. Check out their calendar here.  No fee.
  • Lululemon Athletica Grant Street (327 Grant St.; (415)402-0914): Run Club meets every Thursday at 6pm for 5K and 10K distances.  Check out their calendar here. No fee.
  • See Jane Run (3910 24th St.; (415)401-8338): Run Club meets every Tuesday at 6pm for a 5K run around Noe Valley.  No fee.
  • Sports Basement Potrero Hill (1590 Bryant St.; (415) 575-3000): Run Club meets every Wednesday at 6:30pm.  No fee.
  • Sports Basement Presidio (610 Old Mason St.; (415) 437-0100): Run Clubs meets every Tuesday at 6:30pm.  No fee.
  • Fleet Feet Sports (2076 Chestnut St.; (415)921-7188): Fun Runs offered three times each week.  Details can be found here.  No fee.

Membership Running Clubs

  • San Francisco Road Runners Club (SFRRC): Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday long and track runs start at Kezar Stadium and Crissy Field.  Annual running membership is $150 and gives you the opportunity to join any run or stay on track with one of their marathon and half marathon training programs.  Great reviews on Yelp!
  • Golden Gate Running Club: Wednesday evening track workouts at Kezar Stadium and Sunday morning runs at Crissy Field.  Annual dues are $40.
